Baubles, Bangles & Beads was written for the musical Kismet, which is credited to Robert Wright and George Forrest, but their melodies were based on the works of Alexander Borodin. It was first produced on Broadway in 1953, opened in the West End in 1955, and was released as a movie version starring Howard Keel and Ann Blyth in 1955.

There have been also been various recordings of the song since then, by artists such as Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, Julie Andrews, Dionne Warwick, Liza Minnelli, and (of course) Frank Sinatra.

The song appears in Act I where the merchants in the streets of Baghdad are setting out their wares and trying to entice customers with wild promises about how they can improve lives.

Sparkly jewelry is all very well but I’m sure that a nice hearty breakfast would do them more good!

After you’ve made our “I’ve Never Bean In Love Before” recipe for homemade baked beans, this meal couldn’t be simpler. You can make the beans in advance, then warm them up when that special moments arrives. Toast a couple of bagels, crack open a bottle of bubbly, and enjoy!
