The Room Where it Happened is a suspenseful show-stopping number from the super popular musical Hamilton, sung by Aaron Burrata. It is about a private meeting that ultimately results in Burr(ata) going his own way from Alexander HamStilton.
The room where it happened
No one really knows how the game is played
The art of the trade
How the sausage gets made
We just assume that it happens
But no one else is in
The room where it happens
Did someone say sausage? That reminds me to Take a Break(fast)! Alternatively, load up some portabella mushrooms with whatever you can find, and serve it for breakfast or brunch. There’s all kind of things happening inside this (mush)room…
Place portabella mushrooms stalk-side-down on a baking sheet lined with a silicone mat or baking parchment. Put them in a preheated oven for 15 minutes.
Flip them over, then add a layer of chopped ham to each mushroom. Crack an egg into each mushroom and return it to the oven. Note – if the egg slides off, leave it to cook on the silicone mat then transfer it back to the mushroom later.
Let cook for five minutes, then add shredded cheese, bacon bits and red pepper flakes. Return to the oven and cook for another five minutes or until the cheese has melted.
I haven’t given precise measurements because the recipe can be super flexible – but I’d recommend two mushrooms per person for a decent breakfast. There are many variations you could try with this dish, depending on what you have to hand. You could even get wild and crazy and add vegetables!
