Bacon features in several posts on this blog, most notably Don’t Go Bacon My Heart, Take A Break(fast), My Girlfriend Olives in Canada, The Arti-Chokey Chant Dip, The Loin King, and Get Me To The Chicken On Thyme. But I couldn’t help feeling that we needed a recipe that was ALL about the bacon.
This dish was inspired by the musical Rent, which opened on Broadway in 1996 and ran for 12 years. I have to confess that I’ve never seen the stage show version, but that could be because there’s rather a lack of outrageous costumes and tap routines for my tastes! But I *have* seen the 2005 movie version, and the song that really stood out for me was Take Me Or Leave Me, almost certainly because Idina Menzel was involved.

Now, musicals like Rent may not be light and fluffy, but then neither is a BACON WEAVE.
You saw that coming, right?
This bacon weave bowl was inspired by this No-Bread BLT recipe, and is a highly recommended for anyone who loves bacon as much as I do! For each bacon weave bowl you’ll need around 8-10 strips of bacon. Place half of them in a row vertically. Then weave in the same amount horizontally, alternating the weave with each row.
Move the weave to a baking sheet lined with foil and a baking rack. Place another rack over the top – and this is the key to stop the weave curling up as it cooks.

Place under the broiler (overhead grill) until the bacon is cooked but not crispy. Transfer the weave to a small oven-safe bowl (flipping it over is a good idea to ensure even cooking) and continue cooking until the bacon is crispy.
Pat down the bacon with paper towels to mop up any excess grease. You could either leave it in the bowl to crisp up further as it cools or place it upside down on an overturned bowl.

After you’ve got your bacon weave bowl prize, the rest is up to you. I chose to make it into a BLT bowl with grape tomatoes, shredded lettuce and green onions. On Mayown would have been a perfect addition to the meal! You can also use a bacon weave bowl to serve Life Is A Camembert!
