If you loved our Cell Block Mango cocktail – try this one! They Both Reached For The Gun is a lively number from the musical Chicago, which opened on Broadway in 1975 and on the West End in 1979. A popular movie version of Chicago was released in 2002, where this song was performed by Richard Gere. Billy Flynn explains how he plans to “bamboozle” the court (further demonstrated when he later sings Razzle Dazzle (or, in fact Razzle Basil!)), and proceeds to his main defense: that both Fred Casely (now deceased) and Roxie Hart reached for the gun at the same time, but Roxie got there first.
And yet we both reached for the gun
Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes we both
Oh yes we both
Oh yes, we both reached for
The gun, the gun, the gun, the gun
Oh yes, we both reached for the gun
For the gun.
Now, this gin-based cocktail recipe may not be *quite* as dangerous as reaching for a gun – but you’ll still want to get to it before anyone else!
Place a few fresh blackberries in the base of a glass and use a muddler to pop and squish them into a puree.
Add fresh oregano leaves, lemon juice, simple syrup, and gin, and mix well. If you don’t have oregano to hand, try this cocktail with mint or rosemary instead! Place several ice cubes in the glass and top up with tonic water.
Garnish with lemon slices and a fresh blackberry.
Easy sugar free variation: Use diet tonic and replace the simple syrup with a sugar free sweetener like liquid stevia.
